History
In 1997 Gil Hodge and
Buddy Cook set out to
find a location for a
public golf course and
discovered a great piece
of property just minutes
west of San Antonio, Texas.
Gil, an automobile dealer
from Atlanta, Georgia and
Buddy, former Director of
Golf for many great clubs
such as Royal Oaks, in Dallas,
Texas, The Dominion in
San Antonio, Texas, The
Vintage in Palm Springs, CA
and La Cantera Resort in
San Antonio felt that this
property was ideally suited
for a great golf course and
a golf community.
This 2,400-acre parcel was
part of the Briggs Ranch,
a working cattle ranch.
With the design help of
Lee Trevino and Roy Bechtol
The Golf Club of Texas was
underway. This great course
celebrated it's grand opening
in May of 2000 and today is
recognized as one of the best
public or private golf courses
in south Texas.
Gil and Buddy then recruited
Bill Rogers, PGA Tour great
and past British Open
Champion to assist them in
their next masterpiece,
Briggs Ranch Golf Club. After
Bill joined the team, the
three partners recruited
Tom Fazio to design and build
the best golf course that
Texas has to offer.
On December 26, 2001 Briggs
Ranch Golf Club with it's
Tom Fazio signature course
was unveiled to its members.
It is considered by those who
know golf to be Texas' best
and one of this country's
best courses.
